One person was killed and five others injured in a shooting near a popular Atlanta shopping destination Saturday night, police said.
A group of people between the ages of about 15 and 21 had been escorted from the grounds of the Atlantic Station outdoor mall and were on an adjacent highway overpass when gunfire erupted, Atlanta Police Lieutenant Germain Dearlove said at a news conference.
The deceased was found at the scene, he said, and the injured were taken to medical facilities. Their conditions were not available.
The background of a suspect or suspects was not known. There may have been two parties in the group, with two gunmen exchanging gunfire, Germain said.
A witness told an Atlanta NBC affiliate WXIA that as many as 30 shots were heard.
Filming took place during one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year at one of the most popular malls in the Atlanta area.
Police blocked 17th Street as they investigated the origin of the attack. Exit lanes from adjacent Interstate 85 freeway reopened late Saturday after being closed to accommodate investigators.
