3 Australian impact startups named in real estate-backed global challenge to improve ESG

Out of a dozen companies, three Australian startups have been chosen to be part of the RealTechX ESG Impact program.

Start-up of insect-based organic waste management bardee; accessibility solution for people with disabilities, BindiMaps; and construction site environmental monitoring company SiteHive will be one of 12 startups in the Taronga Ventures-supported program.

ESG Impact received more than 220 applications from 30 countries for the program. The program will support the startups to drive environmental, social and governance (ESG) innovation through the built environment sector.

The program is supported by the world’s leading real estate groups, including APG, CapitaLand, CBRE, Dexus and International Towers, and Participate technology companies will work closely with Taronga Ventures and ESG Impact program partners to: deliver better ESG results.

ESG impact Program Director Julian Kezelman said: 12 participants were selected based on business partners’ ESG priorities as a: reflecting global industry dynamics, with a strong focus on ESG reporting, carbon and energy management, climate risk, waste management, data management and wellbeing, health & safety.

“ESG has become the main motivation for real estate companies to adopt emerging technologies. Sustainability leaders have made significant strides in their ESG agendas in recent years and are now looking for innovations that will provide a lasting boost to ESG performance,” he said.

“ESG Impact is committed to providing global solutions for our business partners to implement into their assets and projects to generate measurable impact.”

Taronga Ventures is Asia’s leading technology and innovation investor focused on real estate sector and the wider built environment.

The 12 companies in ESG Impact 2022 are:

Alveole (Canada): Urban beehives to monitor and promote biodiversity and engage residents

ampd energy (Hong Kong): Industrial-scale batteries to replace diesel generators on construction sites

bardee (Aus): Organic waste management solution that uses insects to make agricultural products

BindiMaps (Aus): Accessible signage solution for people with disabilities

CarbonCure (Canada): CO2 utilization technology to reduce the carbon intensity of concrete production

Globe (UK): Construction and furnishing waste marketplace connecting businesses with NGOs

measurable (US): ESG reporting software for commercial real estate

a concern (US): Software platform to model climate risk and improve asset resilience

SiteHive (Aus): Real-time environmental monitoring and management on construction sites

Social Values ​​Portal (UK): Social Value Measurement, Management and Reporting Software
