Toshimasa Ishii is in the director’s chair and the anime is adapted by A-1 Pictureswe know from beloved animes like black butler and Kaguya-sama: Love is war† The anime is about the struggle of the Republic of San Magnolia and the Giadian Empire against each other in the context of science fiction. Originally broadcast on many local channels such as Tokyo MX, BS11, GYT, GTV, ytv, CTV between April 11, 2021 and June 20, 2021, the anime also last appeared for its first season on June 27 with its special episode. What is the storyline of the anime?
After years of dominance on the battlefield by the drones of the Giadian Empire, the Republic of San Magnolia, through patient and painstaking research, has finally succeeded in developing its own autonomous drones. The Republican government claims that the war is no longer a one-sided battle, but a bloodless battle between technologically advanced societies and armies of drones and machines.
On the other hand, the government propaganda tries to cover up the dark reality of the autonomous units. In the Republic of San Magnolia, the racist government of Alba has long persecuted the Colorata minority. Called the 86s, they are rumored to be forced to pilot unmanned drones in a horrific war against the Giadian Empire. When Major Vladilena “Lena” Mirizé leads an elite unit of 86 veterans, she learns of their oppression and sympathizes with them.
Faced with years of propaganda-defying truth, Lena’s frustration with the Republic’s greatness is swift, and her life changes dramatically. Unfortunately, the fact that she is an Albanian means that it will be difficult for Lena to find the support of the Colorata minority. Even if she manages to win the oppressed hearts, how will Lena stop the persecution of the racist Alba government?
Will there be a second season of 86 (Eighty-Six)?
The first part of the anime ended on June 20, 2021. But this is not the end. Although the animes second season hasn’t been announced yet, we’d like to share with fans that the first season isn’t finished yet. A teaser of the second part of the anime was recently released. The second part of the anime will meet the audience in October 2021† For anime lovers who often have to wait years for the new seasons, we can say that this period is quite short.
The light novel, original of the series, is written by Asato Asato and illustrated by Shirabii. The series, which ASCII Media Works has been releasing since February 10, 2017, has reached ten volumes today and is not yet final. A short section of the light novel has only been adapted for the first season of the anime, and there is plenty of stock material for the new seasons.
Disc sales of the anime will be announced at the end of July and we will add it to our article. Since disc sales are financial data, they give good clues about the possibility of the next seasons. Popularity is the most important thing for an anime. If we look at the Twitter account of the anime, we see that 57k people follow. We can say that it is not bad for a new anime. In a simple equation, How not to summon a demon lord? is followed by 47k folks, and the new season has just been released. Eighty-six ranks 603rd in Myanimelist’s popularity rankings, and we’re sure this ranking will increase in the coming months.
The anime is currently not licensed by any major exclusive distributor (such as Netflix, Amazon) and has no side products (smartphone game, live action movie). It shows that disc sales are important. In order for the anime to have more seasons, it must be successful in disc sales.
Spoiler: Is Shin really dead?
We warn readers because the answer to this question is a big spoiler† You will get the answer to this question in the upcoming chapters, but the decision is of course yours.
We know you are all very upset. We know there are those of you who say it shouldn’t end like this. You’re pretty confused about the finale, but this spoiler will answer some questions. Shin doesn’t die. All five survive. To create excitement in the final scene, the studio pretended Shin had no head. This headless thing is totally inconvenient. Rei comes in Legion form and saves everyone. However, it is still a question mark how it will be adapted in the anime. Let’s wait and see.
