A soldier died and nine others were injured in a lightning strike at an army installation in Georgia on Wednesday, a Fort Gordon spokesman said.
The lightning strike occurred during field training around 11 a.m. at Fort Gordon, near Augusta, said spokesman Anne Bowman.
The identity of the fallen soldier was not released pending notification to next of kin.
The condition of the wounded soldiers was not known on Wednesday evening.
Range control reported a lightning strike at around 11:10 am during one of their training exercises, Bowman said, and the fort’s emergency services responded.
The wounded soldiers were taken to Eisenhower Medical Center by mail, she said.
The National Weather Service had predicted a chance of thunderstorms on Wednesday afternoon, but also on Thursday and Friday.
