There will be no A Team 2 and the ‘team’ confirms that. making it certain that we won’t get a sequel, this has been confirmed by Bradley Cooper himself.
After about eleven years since his release, the 2010 military has action movie The A-team has remained in the memories of fans. It’s been a long time, but they’re still hoping for a sequel. To their disappointment, it is clear that there will be no A Team 2 and the ‘team’ confirms that.
About the A-Team
The A-team was originally a 1983 TV series starring four members of a special forces unit of the United States Armed Forces. They are charged with a crime and will be court-martialed.
Later they escape from prison and work as mercenaries. The show unexpectedly became a huge hit with its theme song, slogans and cartoonish violence where there were rarely serious injuries. It launched Mr. T to fame, who played BA Baracus in the series.
Stephen J. Carnell, who produced the series, returned as co-producer for the 2010 film adaptation, based on the exact backdrop, the film featured big names such as Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Sharlto Copley, Jessica Biel, and Patrick Wilson.
The creators have made The A-Team with the hope of creating a new franchise. Unfortunately, the film didn’t do as well as it was supposed to, reducing the chances of a sequel.
The reason behind the cancellation of a team 2
While the film was loved for its casting and craziness and hated for portraying the characters differently with a disjointed plot; the reason for canceling is strictly based on the numbers. Joe Carnahan, the writer and director, along with the… protagonists showed interest in making a second film.
The budget for producing the film was $110 million, with sales of $77 million at the US box office and $100 million in international theaters.
With a profit of $67 million, there wouldn’t be much left after taking care of marketing and other expenses. It didn’t lose any money, but it clearly wasn’t making enough.
In 2011, Bradley Cooper told rich magazine, that despite his love for it, there was not enough income to fund a second film.
Liam Neeson also confirmed it in an interview, adding that he found it confusing when he watched the film itself. In the end, Carnahan became the second person to confirm when he replied on Twitter that the film did not make any money despite all the love from the fans.
What can the A-team 2 have?
The original series ran for 5 seasons and had a number of stories with each episode featuring a new story.
The characters refer to previous episodes, preserving the series structure. If there had been a second movie or a spin-off of the 2010 movie, it could have been based on one of these episodes.
The A-Team ended with a cameo from Jon Hamm, who introduces himself as another Lynch. While the team realizes they’ve returned to where they started, they escape again. Whether this ‘Lynch’ would be an ally or an enemy is a question that is left open and will remain so.
What happened to the reboot of A Team TV?
While there’s no evidence that anything is going on under the surface in any other movie, in 2015 Deadline detailed that The A-Team was rebooting for a new TV show. Chris Morgan (The Fast and The Furious) would deliver this new adaptation, which would have included a few female individuals in the group as they effectively tried to clear their names and uncover conspiracy.
There has been no real information about this reboot since it was announced so it may not be happening again. While Joe Carnahan’s movie has its fans, The A-Team 2 probably won’t be resuscitated right now.
Despite its cast and blockbuster status, The A-Team didn’t do incredible numbers. The spending plan was an expected $110 million, but it made less than $80 million locally. When calculating in-home video deals and the global movie industry, it earned a total of $220 million, but given promotion and various releases, it was a compelling financial frustration.
The Studio also tried to make a team 2 with Dave Bautista and Will Smith
The studio is eager to catch the A rundown cast for their new characters as well, with Will Smith and Dave Bautista both supposedly viable for jobs. It’s unclear if either has been officially reached at this point.
And we imagine Disney also has different names in their outline, but as far as the plot is right, it will clearly have something to do with the group trying to save one of the individuals from a collection of psychological militants.
But is the crowd really there for another A-Team? Trying a similar story strategy to this film, the new Charlie’s Angels sank without a cinema sequel, with experts concluding that audiences simply didn’t care about a 1970s TV show.
The A-Team is a little later than Charlie’s Angels, sure, but in a few years, so Disney is ideally aware that they can’t do it just on sentimentality for the IP.
Anyway, it looks like this venture is only in its exceptionally earliest progressive stages and finally the studio could be scared by Charlie’s Angels’ high profile disappointment. If they can get their hands on a howdy octane activity film with clever content and a magnetic cast for this new take on The A-Team, I’ll be there at the very least.
