rsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale is absent from this afternoon’s Premier League clash with Aston Villa after suffering a hip injury.

The former Sheffield United goalkeeper has been a huge success since his summer arrival from the Blades, establishing himself as Mikel Arteta’s No1.

His form has taken him into Gareth Southgate’s England squad for this month’s friendlies against Switzerland and Ivory Coast and there has been talk that the 23-year-old could usurp long-term No1 Jordan Pickford ahead of the World Cup in Qatar.

It remains to be seen whether he is now ruled out of the camp.

German international Bernd Leno, who lost his place in the Arsenal side to Ramsdale, comes in for his first league appearance since August.

The Gunners are also without Gabriel Martinelli because of illness.

The Brazilian is another young player who has been a vital part of Arteta’s side’s push for a top four place and is replaced in the XI by Emile Smith Rowe as the only other change to the side that started the midweek defeat to Liverpool.
