Early life and family
Andrea LA Thoma of Malaysian American descent, was born on July 11, 1988 in Alliance, Ohio, USA to parents Judy Majalap, a Malaysian, and James Thoma, an American; her zodiac sign is Cancer and her birthstone is Ruby. She and her siblings, Jonathan and Louise Thoma, grew up in Ohio but are aware of their Borneo heritage and culture. Her mother made sure she could speak Bahasa Malay and Kadazan by teaching her both the local Malay languages and its traditions as she grew up.
Both Andrea’s siblings are quite close to her as evidenced by her Instagram posts. A graduate of Ohio State University, Jonathan is now Business Development Director of Hyperion Motors and also works at Marriott Hotels in the resort’s sales department. Andrea has two PhDs, works at the University of Delaware and currently lives in Newark, Delaware.
Andrea graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Louisville, Ohio in 2006. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology from Kent State University (KSU) in 2009 and earned a doctorate in physical therapy from Old Dominion University in California.
She was the consummate athlete growing up and playing various sports along with her siblings. Jonathan played for Ohio State Football and Louise Athletics at the University of Mount Union.
In high school, Andrea competed in the 100m, long jump and 4×100 relay at the district and regional meetings. Her time on the varsity soccer team resulted in breaking a record for scoring six goals in a game against Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy. She was also named First Team All-Tri County, Second Team All-Ohio pick, and NSCAA All-Region III Team in 2005. She also played for Greater Akron Premier Soccer Club.
In college, she was welcomed into the KSU Golden Flashes football team.
However, before seeing action for the team as a freshman, she was put into a medical redshirt year. Her rookie year started in 2007 instead of 2006 thanks to her knee injury during the preseason. She received a commendation to the Academic All-MAC Team and was able to score a multi-goal game that made her the 19the player to do it in women’s soccer team history.
Even in college, Andrea spent five months working in Virginia and Connecticut as a physical therapist. After graduation, she moved to Sunnydale, California, and worked for a few months before deciding to continue her PhD.
As a physiotherapist doctor, she currently treats patients recovering from an accident and helps them regain their mobility.
She said one of the most difficult tasks as a physical therapist is to convince the patient to fully commit to the rehabilitation program. She also uploads workout videos on her verified Instagram account, “lathoma3” and official YouTube channel, “Dare to Get Active with Dr. LA Thoma Gustin.” She stated in her channel description, “One of the most valuable things I’ve learned from my parents is leading by example.” Her videos aim to motivate people to be active and show how simple it really can be.
Andrea married American actor-singer Grant Gustin on December 15, 2018 at the Valentine DTLA in Los Angeles, California, after being engaged for two years. They started dating a month after they first met on December 23, 2016 at a Sabah Tourism Board dinner.

He planned a romantic proposal with Costa Rica as the backdrop, to coincide with his movie schedule in the Latin American country. However, the filming schedule kept getting pushed back, so he just decided to do it casually but meaningfully, during one of their beach workouts, but almost ruined the surprise by putting the engagement ring in the training bag they both use. Luckily, she didn’t see it and he was able to ask the question during a workout routine. At first she laughed at him, but eventually said yes. That unforgettable moment was shared on her Instagram account.
The intimate wedding was attended by family and close friends, including Grant’s fellow ‘Flash’ cast members and the production team.
This was just a formality for Grant, for he felt that the moment she said yes to his proposal, he was already fully committed to her as her husband. They also lived together for quite some time before the actual wedding ceremony took place.
Who is Grant Gustin?
Thomas Grant Gustin was born on January 14, 1990 in Norfolk, Virginia, USA to parents Thomas Gustin, a college professor, and Tina Haney, a pediatric nurse. He graduated from Granby High School in 2008 and completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, majoring in Theater Program at Eton University in North Carolina for two years, but failed. Instead of completing his college education, Grant took a big step by choosing to be a part of the Broadway Musical’s Revival Tour, “West Side Story,” playing the role of Baby John throughout the year’s tour. .
When it wasn’t his night to act, he continued to audition for other acting roles, both on TV and in movies. Just after his last appearance on the West Side Story, he was chosen to be a part of the hit musical TV show ‘Glee’. He originally auditioned for a tap dancer but was turned down, but the show producer called him back to offer a key role. He became Sebastian Smythe, the scheming openly gay member of the protagonists’ rival choral troupe, The Dalton Academy Warblers. Some of the songs he covered on the show, along with other actors, debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 and it helped him gain popularity, especially with the young adult audience.
A string of TV and movie roles followed, but his biggest break to date came when he landed the title role on the TV series “The Flash” airing on CW.
It was originally just an Arrowverse backdoor pilot role for a possible spin-off series, but the TV executives decided not to wait and created a standalone pilot. More than 120 episodes have aired since the pilot episode in 2014, and currently in its 6e season, still going strong in terms of ratings..
