ikel Arteta is hopeful Arsenal will have Alexandre Lacazette available for Saturday’s trip to Southampton.

The striker has missed some training sessions this week but Arteta has not disclosed the reason why.

“Obviously they are private reasons that I cannot comment on,” said the Arsenal manager. “But I have no other team news to give apart from they guys that we have discussed.

“We will see if he is available. There is a good possibility that’s the case.”

Arsenal will definitely be without Thomas Partey (thigh), who, along with Kieran Tierney (knee), is due to miss the rest of the season now.

Takehiro Tomiyasu is still struggling with a calf issue.

Arteta faces a selection dilemma at left-back, but he has hinted Granit Xhaka could keep his place there.

“You can discuss whether Granit can play there, just look at the stats when the team has played with Granit as a left-back,” said Arteta. “They don’t get much better than that.”

Arsenal likely XI (4-3-3): Ramsdale; Cedric, White, Gabriel, Xhaka; Odegaard, Lokonga, Smith Rowe; Saka, Lacazette, Martinelli.

Saturday 3.00pm GMT

Venue: St. Mary’s Stadium

Referee: Peter Bankes

Arsenal squad from: Leno, Ramsdale, Okonkwo; Cedric, Gabriel, Holding, Tavares, White; Elneny, Lokonga, Odegaard, Patino, Saka, Smith Rowe, Xhaka; Lacazette, Martinelli, Nketiah and Pepe.

Injured: Partey (thigh), Tierney (knee) and Tomiyasu (calf)
