Three people died and nine were injured in separate, “unacceptable” shootings just minutes apart Wednesday in Washington, DCand Baltimorethe authorities said.

Metropolitan Police Department officers were called to O Street NW at 12:49 PM where five people were shot, two fatally, for a retirement home, officials said.

Police are looking for a black sports car that drove south on Capitol Street NW and turned right on O Street when “at least two gunmen” got out of that car and opened fire, MPD Executive Assistant Chief said. Ash Benedict.

“We need the help of the public on this,” Benedict told reporters, hoping witnesses will come forward and/or provide video footage.

It was not immediately clear whether the victims were residents of the retirement home.

The block where gunfire broke out in DC, Benedict said, is known as an “open-air drug market.”

“MPD routinely monitors this area and makes arrests for narcotics violations, but the people are essentially getting out again,” Benedict said.

“So this is an ongoing problem for us. So we need the community’s help to quell the unrest in this area, unfortunately this has resulted in five people being shot today. That is unacceptable.”

Three fire departments made inspections near the shooting and witnessed at least some of the crime, police said.

“They basically ran into this situation,” Benedict said. “They will be useful for our research.”

In Baltimore, officers rushed to the corner of Shirley and Park Heights Avenues at approximately 12:24 PM as “two victims were at the scene” and five “victims who suffered gunshot wounds entered area hospitals seeking to treatment,” said a statement from the Baltimore Police Department.

One of those two found at the scene died as police searched for a suspect in a silver Lexus sedan, police said.

As in Washington, DC, the Baltimore victims were also shot by multiple gunmen, Police Commissioner Michael Harrison said.

“Two individuals exited that vehicle and started firing at the group of individuals sitting and standing at the intersection,” Harrison told reporters.

All the victims of both shootings are men, but they were not immediately identified.
