I wanted to get in touch with you today to talk about the BeReal app (yes I know what that is – I have teenage kids and a life outside of work unlike the rest of you who work longer hours than me and yet is not eligible for company dental insurance.)
As you know, we pride ourselves on cultivating a fun, energetic and
burnt out fast corporate culture. Remember how we used to have a pool table, a Nintendo 64 and Soylent on tap? Well, maybe not, since you all voted to never return to the office after the pandemic, so we broke our lease and sold everything (I did keep one of our meditation rooms, though. Sadly the extra Soylent has expired).
Anyway, I saw a post on LinkedIn this week (no, not That) from an old friend of mine – we were on the squash team together at Dartmouth and Choate, as were both our fathers. Dave is now an analyst at Goldman and he said his summer intern tipped him off about secret Morgan Stanley data! How did she find out? Apparently her boyfriend has it on BeReal! She took a selfie at her desk, but on the other side of the camera, right on her laptop, there it was… Trade secrets, just out in the open, ready for anyone to steal. But good for his intern – I’d hire her if he doesn’t! (As long as she doesn’t need dental coverage.)
I searched on Bing and found this article by The information about the same! I didn’t read the article because I don’t believe in paying for good journalism. But I have found this TikTok which really sealed the deal, and of course everything you see on TikTok is factually accurate.
As much as I’d like to, I know I can’t monitor your phone usage while you’re at it working from home
what is nonsense?. Sometimes, like it or not, the daily BeReal notification comes in during the workday. And even if you can just wait until after work with BeReal and no one will care, I get it – you want to take that selfie on your desk and get right back to work.
Be careful while being BeReal!
While making sure your selfie on your front camera is picture-perfect, you should also take a look at what you’re posting from the rear camera. For example, if I had previously taken a selfie at my desk, I would have accidentally leaked a spreadsheet with engineers’ salary data, and if you zoomed in on the image, you could see that men earn $50,000 more than women with the same amount of money. job title at our company. Of course I would never want any of you to find out – what a PR nightmare.
Anyway, add me on BeReal! bere.al/venture-capital-is-ethical
