Brittanee Drexel was last seen on 25e April 2009 when she was seventeen years old. She was out of town with her friends and her boyfriend in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Brittanee was last seen around 8pm at the Bar Harbor Hotel in 2009. She was caught on the CCTV cameras at the Blue Water Resort on Ocean Boulevard, where she was supposedly going to meet her other friends. Brittanee Drexel was never seen again after this, here she is gone.
What happened before she went missing?
Brittanee Drexel was refused when she asked her mother for permission to go to Myrtle Beach. Despite being denied permission, she went to Myrtle Beach and said she was at her boyfriend’s house. Her mother was unaware of the fact, although they spoke to each other on the phone several times after she arrived in South Carolina.
Brittanee’s mother only found out where her daughter was when she learned that her daughter had disappeared.
Brittanee Drexel was enjoying some sort of spring break with her friends and boyfriend until she didn’t respond to her boyfriend’s call, as he claimed. Brittanee’s friend John Grieco sensed something was wrong because she wasn’t taking calls, he knew something was up.
After four to five hours of no response, John finally thought it was time to break the news of Brittanee’s disappearance to her mother, along with where she was.
Her mother Dawn Drexel was shocked to hear the news that no one could find Brittanee. When she listened to this she said, “What do you mean she’s in Myrtle Beach and they can’t find her?”
As reported, she was wearing a white top and black shorts when she walked out of the Blue Water resort. She went missing at 25e April and her phone last signaled at 29e April 2009 in Georgetown County, South Carolina.
Her phone’s battery was believed to be dead. Brittanee had left the hotel without taking any clothes, and her beige purse and pink cell phone disappeared with her.
Who Killed Brittanee Drexel?
In the summer of 2016, investigators investigating the case stated that they knew what had happened to Brittanee. They had named a suspect in the case and they firmly believed she was held against her will for four days before being killed. The main suspect was Timothy Da’Shaun Taylor, who was being watched by Taquan Brown.
The witness had testified that Timothy and several other people sexually assaulted Brittanee at a drug dealer’s “stash house” in McClellanville, South Carolina. Not only Timothy but also his father Shaun Taylor was there.
According to the police, Timothy had something in mind other than the circumstances that led him to kill Brittanee.
Police stated that Timothy intended to force Brittanee into prostitution, but her disappearance caused quite a stir and publicity, so he decided to kill Brittanee.
There was even a case where Brittanee Drexel tried to escape from the house she was being held in, but unfortunately she was caught with a gun and brought back inside, as the witness reported.
Taquan Brown, the witness, said he heard two shots after she was brought back inside. The next thing he saw was Brittanee’s cloth-wrapped body being carried out of the house. Her body is said to have been dumped in one of the many local alligator pits.
There is great confusion in Brittanee’s disappearance case, as it is based on eyewitness Taquan Brown and there is no evidence. On the other hand, Brown is currently awaiting trial for a robbery case in 2011. He had already been convicted of the robbery case and was sentenced to an 18-month ban. In July 2017, he pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 10 to 20 years in prison.
Federal prosecutors don’t usually charge people who have already been convicted by the state court. But in Timothy’s case, he was suspected of being involved in Brittanee’s disappearance.
Although Timothy Taylor has successfully maintained his innocence in the disappearance case due to lack of evidence.
With no evidence to prove what Brown testified, Timothy has not been charged with Brittanee’s disappearance. He even claims he doesn’t know Taquan Brown.
As of 2022, Brittanee’s case remains unsolved as Brown’s account for her murder is not substantiated by other eyewitnesses.
