A primary school joined together to hold a picnic to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

About 400 children at Goodrich Community Primary School in Dunstans Road, East Dulwich were able to sing the national anthem together, sit on picnic blankets eating picnic snacks and dance the afternoon away.

Chloe, from Year 5, said: “I enjoyed the singing and dancing and being with friends.

“It’s important to celebrate the jubilee because she has been the Queen for a very long time.”

Earlier, the children had been very busy making royal-themed hats for the royal headdress competition, and hanging bunting and decorations around the school.

The school was dressed in red, white and blue for the special occasion on Wednesday of last week.

As part of Southwark’s clean and green grant the school has been given money to buy and plant a Queen’s Jubilee tree, a red tree for the occasion, an Acer garnet, and this will be called The Queen’s tree.

Chairman of Governors, Ryan Sales, said: “At Goodrich we are extremely proud to be celebrating the platinum jubilee.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity for the whole school community to come together and honour such a monumental event.

“Every year group within the school has plans to make the day as enjoyable and positive as it should be.

“We hope that it will help to end the year on a high.”
