Texas Teen Charged With Attempted Stealing a ball python called “Chompers” was charged with theft at gunpoint, according to court documents obtained on Thursday.

The 17-year-old was booked on two counts on Wednesday and is being held in the Harris County Jail, prison records show.

The teen allegedly displayed a gun while threatening a woman over the snake, placing her “out of fear of imminent bodily harm and death,” according to a charge filed Monday.

A second person charged with participating in the October 2 robbery southeast of downtown Houston was released on Thursday. NBC affiliate KPRC of Houston reported.

The attempted robbery happened after a woman posted the snake on a sales app and agreed to meet a potential buyer in the parking lot of an apartment complex, Houston police said in a statement last month.

The woman, Ariel Giron, told KPRC she agreed to sell the ball python for $200. A girl arrived in the parking lot with a few dollars and said her brother would send her the rest later, Giron told the station.

As they talked, two men approached her minibus, she told the station. One of them had a gun and demanded the snake, she said.

Shortly after they arrived, the pair could be seen fleeing from Giron’s vehicle, snake in hand, according to security video released by the department.

“I suspect he was afraid of the snake,” Giron told KPRC. “The snake went past him a little bit and he jumped back.”

“Now I think he’ll stay with me,” she added.

A lawyer for the teenager was not immediately available.
