The Southeast Asian climate technology company has called it Wavemaker Impact Monica Konheady as a new Venture Partner for Australia and New Zealand awaiting local rollout in 2023.

The mission of the VC is to support and support climate technology start-ups with the combined potential to reduce global carbon by 10% by 2035.

Wavemaker effect calls them “100×100” companies – start-ups with the potential to reduce 100 million tons of CO2 emissions and a US$100 million income business. To date, Wavemaker’s founding team – Doug Parker, Marie Cheong, Paul Santos, Steve Melhuish and Quentin Vaquette – has built 15 companies from scratch, including unicorn status and an IPO, and invested more than 300 million dollars in Asian technology companies, including 35 greentech startups.

Parker said the company “to be lucky”. Conheady leads his ANZ efforts.

“As a successful climate entrepreneur, she understands better than anyone the opportunities and challenges of launching green businesses for ANZ,” he said.

Conheady’s 25 year focus on climate and impact technology ranges from serial founder to executive, investor and director.

She was co-founder and CEO of Australia first car-sharing service, Flexicar, for an exit to Hertz. She also co-founded the crowdfunded energy retailer DC Power Co. and is currently the chairman of JET Charge, the leading electric vehicle charging infrastructure company in the country. Her CV also states that she serves on the boards of directors of the Victorian Environment Protection Authority; Phantm, a laboratory for natural materials solutions; and the inaugural chairman of the Cremorne Digital Hub, Victoria’s digital ecosystem gateway.

“I am excited to join the Wavemaker Impact team and bring their approach to building climate technologies to the ANZ region,” said Conheady.

“Entrepreneurs play a vital role in developing scalable solutions that address climate change. I look forward to working with experienced entrepreneurs to discover opportunities to build climate engineering unicorns that serve the region and beyond.”

Conheady said Wavemaker Impact is already looking for experienced founders to join a Australiaclimate technology based unicorn. The details are here on LinkedIn.
