Coal production increased by 32% and coal-fired electricity generation also increased, ministry says

The Ministry of Coal on Wednesday said that the coal production rose by about 32.5% in June this year and the coal Electricity-based energy generation has also increased over the same period, growing by about 26 percent.



The ministry said that coal production in India has increased by 32.57 percent to 67.59 million tons (MT) from 50.98 tons in June 2021. According to preliminary statistics from the Ministry of Coal, in June this year, Coal India Ltd (CIL), Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) and captive mines/others recorded growth of 28.87 percent, 5.50 percent and 83.53 percent by producing 51.56 tons, 5.56 tons and 10.47 tons, respectively. Of the top 37 coal mines, a whopping 22 mines produced more than 100 percent, and production in a further nine mines was between 80 and 100 percent.

At the same time, coal shipments increased 20.69 percent to 75.46 tons, from 62.53 tons in June 2022 compared to June 2021. On June 22, CIL and Captives/Others registered growth of 15.20 percent and 88.23 percent by sending 58.98. and 11.05 MT respectively. SCCL registered negative growth of 0.46 percent during the month.

Supply from energy companies grew 30.77 percent in June this year to 64.89 tons, compared to 49.62 tons in June 21 due to increased demand for power. Coal-based electricity generation has registered a growth of 26.58 percent in June 2022 compared to June 2021.

Total electricity generation in June 2022 was 17.73 percent higher than June 2021. However, coal-based electricity generation in June 2022 was 95,880 MU compared to 98,609 MU in May 2022, registering negative growth of 2.77 per year . cent. Total power generation also fell to 1,38,995 MU in June 2022 from 1,40,059 MU in May 2022, registering negative growth of 0.76 percent.
