Erv hit the media when he married famed singer and actress Chip Fields; the two tied the knot on August 20, 1994, after dating for more than five years. By the time they married, Chip already had two grown daughters, Kim, born May 12, 1969, and Alexis, born March 3, 1979.

She was apparently previously married to a non-famous man, whom she divorced when Kim and Alexis were young.
