The story of King Arther and his well-known magical sword Excaliber has been told and retold several times in the history of movie and TV shows. But Netflix’s Cursed was a fresh take on the popular Arthurian legend. The first season of the fantasy drama series will be released on Netflix in July 2020. It’s been over a year and little to nothing is known about Cursed Season 2. Will it ever happen? Let’s find out-
Netflix’s Cursed is a medieval fantasy action drama series that debuted on the streaming service in July 2020. The series is based on the popular young adult graphic novel by Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler starring 13 Reasons Why, starring Katherine Langford in the lead role. Cursed is a reimagining of the Arthurian legend, shown through the eyes of a female sorceress named Nimue. The young sorceress joins forces with the lovable mercenary Arthur on a mission to save her people.
Is Cursed Season 2 Coming?
Netflix released its first season action-drama series Cursed on July 17, 2020. The first season ended on an unclear note, leaving plenty of room for the story to continue in Cursed Season 2. Fans waited for the highly anticipated second season of the series . However, Netflix surprised everyone with the unforeseen move to properly cancel the series in July 2021, ahead of the second season.
The decision to cancel the show was shocking, as Cursed has performed well in terms of viewership on the streaming service. The show’s disappointed fans launched an online campaign, #SaveCursed. But Netflix has shown no interest in it.
Cursed Season 2: What Could Happen?
In the first season, we saw Nimue finally embrace her Fay wizard powers after initially avoiding them. She then uses them to save the Fey from the army of the Red Paladins. She embarks on a journey to fulfill her dying mother’s dying wish, which is to give Merlin the magical sword Excalibur. Nimue develops a romantic relationship with Arthur, a merchant, during the journey.
In the season finale, Nimue carries out the plan she had devised to prevent Feys from disappearing at the hands of the enemy. She submits to King Uther’s demands in hopes of saving her people from the wrath of the Church. Merlin sets out to expose Cumber when he discovers he won’t keep his half of the bargain. However, he was attacked by the killer who sent Reuben. Cumber sided with the Church and demanded the sword in exchange for Nimue. The Feys and the Red Spears do battle. Morgana rescues Nimue from the Red Paladin, and both go to Merlin’s aid. But Nimue is attacked by Iris and falls from the waterfall, leaving her seemingly dead.
Cursed Season 2 could have answered the question everyone’s been asking: Is the Lady of Fire really dead? And where is Merlin now that he has used his powers on Iris and the Paladins? If Nimue survived, there’s a chance he’ll return if he learns she survived. Enchanted by his newfound power, Arthur can use the Red Spear to wage war against the Church. It will be fascinating to see how the discovery of the Weeping Monk’s true identity influences the main plot.
Did Nimue survive?
One of the main twists in the first season of Cursed is the revelation that Nimue is actually Merlin’s daughter. Merlin has had an incredibly long life as evidenced by the episodes. And he’s survived more than his share of otherwise fatal injuries over the decades. Merlin even showed how incredibly difficult he is to kill when he survives a gruesome assassination attempt by The Fisherman.
Nimue may have inherited Nimue’s tenacity. After all, Iris’ arrows only seemed to hit her in the shoulder and hip, causing minor injuries that were probably not life-threatening. While the fall undoubtedly exacerbated her injuries, she may still be able to recover or endure long enough to be patched up. However, the original version of The Widow predicted Nimue’s death as a painful result of Merlin’s decisions, adding a wrinkle to this hypothesis.
