Mighty Mouseaka Matthew Ward, a popular DJ, passed away on October 20 at the age of 48. Defected Records, his record label, announced the news, stating:

“We are devastated to announce that Matthew Ward, aka Mighty Mouse, passed away unexpectedly last Thursday at his home in Spain.” An aortic aneurysm killed Matthew in his sleep. We would be adrift without his immense presence and skill.”

The statement continued:

“Our hearts go out to his girlfriend, Ellen, and his mother, Judy, as well as his extended family and many friends and admirers.” Please respect the privacy of the family during this difficult time. Please direct all questions and sympathy to his agency.”

DJ Mighty Mouse had an aortic aneurysm.

While announcing his death, Defected Records stated that DJ Mighty Mouse had an aortic aneurysm, which ultimately led to his death. According to the statement, he was at home at the time of his death, indicating he was not in the hospital.

An aortic aneurysm is a bulge that develops in the walls of a large blood artery that carries blood from the heart to the body. Aortic aneurysms are classified into two types: abdominal aortic aneurysms and thoracic aortic aneurysms. The former happens in the part of the aorta that runs through the abdomen, while the latter happens in the part of the aorta that runs through the chest cavity.

The disease increases the chances of a tear developing in the inner layer of the aortic wall. The risks of this condition can be lowered by monitoring blood pressure and cholesterol levels and quitting smoking. DJ Mighty Mouse’s medical history is currently missing, so it’s unknown how long he suffered from this condition.

Fans honor the “gentle man”

On Instagram, DJ Mighty Mouse presented himself as a musician. He made and played records, according to his biography. Matthew appeared regularly on BBC Radio 1 dance programs and worked with prominent DJs such as Groove Armada, Pete Tong, Craig Charles, Andrew Weatherall and others. On October 29, he would also play at a Halloween party in Newcastle.
