The ability of Jalicia Nightengale

As of early 2020, Jalicia Nightengale’s net worth is estimated at over $700,000, largely earned through a successful modeling career. She has traveled the world appearing in print ads, runway shows and television commercials.

She has been mentioned in numerous publications and has also campaigned for the equal treatment of dark-skinned models.

early life

Jalicias blue eyes come from her father’s side of the family, a recessive gene that occurs only a few times per generation. The blue is an unusual shade, extremely light and vibrant, on the brighter end of the spectrum. Of course, this helped her physical appearance to stand out, although she didn’t consider modeling a career early in her life.

It was quite the opposite, as she often attracted the gaze of strangers and people at her school. The locals were very wary of her eyes, and her school even had her mother write a letter to prove that she was not blind because of her eye color. Many locals envied her unusual coloring, and she was also bullied for it, reaching a point where she didn’t even go to school for a period of time. People always asked her about her eyes, and she was very defensive during her childhood.

Modeling career

Over the years, Nightengale became accustomed to her eyes and even began to see her as more of an asset than a curse. The teasing turned into more attention, and she was eventually encouraged by some to pursue modeling.

She was 19 years old when she was convinced by her boyfriend to move to Switzerland and pursue a career as a professional model, where she was immediately noticed and not treated with the same divisiveness she once felt. Wanting to find her breakthrough in the field, she continued to audition for “Switzerland’s Next Top Model” – she had to send her audition several times, because she knew that prejudice in the modeling industry against with dark skin women would mean getting rejected a few times before anyone noticed.

Her actions proved successful and she entered the competition that increased her stock as an aspiring model; the top model franchise is internationally known as a platform to discover emerging models. The show started in the US with “America’s Next Top Model”, created by supermodel Tyra Banks. With the show’s popularity, many other countries followed suit. Competition winners often won a modeling contract and an article in a top fashion magazine.

International model

Although she didn’t win the competition, Jalicia’s work on television helped attract numerous agencies to hire her as a model.

Jalicia Nightengale

She signed with Scouts Models and did a few odd jobs for them, but eventually quit due to disagreements; she felt that the company was limiting her opportunities, so she moved to the UK to look for a job and represent herself. During that time she learned to further develop her personality to help her find a job during negotiations. Although she looked good, she admitted that having a magnetic personality is the most important thing when winning contracts.

She also took permanent jobs in France, where she had to take an intensive language course to give her an edge over other models.

She was offered a contract with New Version Models, which she accepted, and her work steadily increased when she returned to London, where she currently lives. Over the years she has been in the industry, she has befriended many dark-skinned professional models, with whom she would often collaborate. She wanted to prove that dark skin can be beautiful and is determined to break the stereotype against it.

Acting Projects

Nightengale has expressed her interest in acting after her modeling time is over. She sees herself working as a model until she is 30, and after that she will pay much more attention to acting.

She tested the waters a few times and appeared as one of the Amazon warriors in the movie “Justice League”, played one of the warriors in Themyscira, Wonder Woman’s home, and was present during several scenes where they would fight the villain, Steppenwolf.

She also said she had a cameo in “Star Wars” around the time “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” was nearing release. Though she didn’t specify her role, the Star Wars movies are known for playing various celebrities in small or cameo roles. She also launched the project called Melanin on Melanin, a photo shoot with several black women. The project was aimed at raising awareness and proving that dark skin can be beautiful and that it is not always white that is considered beautiful.

The project proved successful, and she was covered by several media outlets for her work.

Private life

It is unknown if Nightengale is still together with her boyfriend who encouraged her to become a model. She doesn’t talk much about her romances and doesn’t have any social media accounts that can provide insight into her life outside of modeling. While life in London was a drastic change in her life in Barbados, she is now used to living in different cultures and is the woman who stands out from the crowd. She has traveled the world thanks to her work, but also wants to put Barbados on the map as an interesting place for model scouts.
