Flipkart’s new big-box fulfillment center, located 50 kilometers from Kolkata in Haringhata, is seeing furious activity as the e-commerce giant prepares for its flagship Big Billion Days (BBD) sale.

Evidence of this is most visible in the Haringhata fulfillment center, which was officially inaugurated in April this year. It has more than 3,000 employees and takes on at least 400 new employees every day and can accommodate 11,000 employees at a time.

Called the big box center, it is spread over 110 acres and has 5 million cubic feet of storage space. Flipkart claims it is one of the largest facilities in Asia.

With the new center, Flipkart now has more than 210 lakh square meters of warehouse space, its highest ever, which will allow for faster deliveries during the festive rush. During the flagship sale, Flipkart’s big box plans to handle a million shipments from all over the country at Haringhata.

Consumer confidence to pick up this holiday season



Hemant Badri, senior vice president and head of supply chain, Flipkart Group said they are extremely optimistic about upcoming BBD sales as they expect people to come out and buy with full force after the pandemic.

The holidays are also important for e-commerce businesses, as many new users come on board for the first time because of discounts or exclusive selections, Badri said.

At an industry level, 40-50 million new users are expected to come on board this year. A majority of them could come from Tier III and IV cities. Badri is optimistic about healthy growth in all categories, led by non-metro regions.

“Consumer confidence towards the festive is very positive, and this includes (for) a good mix of all categories including mobile phones, major appliances, fashion, furniture, home improvement products and you name it. Our teams work very closely together with sellers and brand partners to tailor selection and supply to consumer demand,” said Badri.

With nearly 20,000 sellers, West Bengal is a critical region for Flipkart. Sellers from West Bengal are mainly engaged in children’s and men’s clothing, mobile and fashion wearables, skin care, etc.

Target the next 200 million customers

“This year should be better for us in every way. With our storage combined with automation, our productivity has increased by 15-20%. We are much more optimistic for the next 200 million customers in India to shop with us. of the five orders are from the Tier II and III regions,” said Hemant Badri, senior vice president and head of supply chain, Flipkart Group.

Flipkart reached its first milestone of 100 million registered users in 2018, more than a decade after its founding in 2007. It has more than 400 million registered users on the platform today and is now looking to meet the demands of its next target of 200 million customers. .

Flipkart has more than 80 facility centers in India and to cater to the next 200 million customers, it plans to add three more big-box facilities in the next three years, in North, South and West. -India.

It has already added several large-scale fulfillment and sorting centers in Assam, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and West Bengal in the past three years.

This, along with thousands of added delivery hubs across the country, helps deliver shipments via 100% usable PINs.
