After a long hiatus during the COVID pandemic, Y: The Last Man finally made it to the screens. And it didn’t take much time to grab the attention of the public. Many started clamoring about whether Y: The Last Man Season 2 would return. But it seems like they have to wait a little longer. Series showrunner Eliza Clark had recently shared on Twitter about the potential second season. Keep reading to know more.

Based on the comic book, the show focuses on the world where a catastrophic event killed the mammal. It happened through Y chromosomes on the planet. But surprisingly, Yorick Brown, a cisgender male, survived and is now the last male on Earth. Meanwhile, his mother had to find a way to restore society.

Y: The Last Man Season 2: Renewal Status!

After the pandemic-related shutdown, the show only lasted one season. The network canceled the show while the first season was still airing. According to FX chairman John Landgraf, the show failed to grab viewers’ attention. He said he admired the work of showrunner Eliza Clark. But the audience decline was steep, forcing them to cancel the show.

John went on to explain that they focused on holding the crowd. The show they renewed had the highest retention level than the show they canceled. So based on viewership, the network canceled the show.

Boss talks about serial cancellation

Shortly after the network canceled the show, series showrunner Eliza Clark confirmed the news on Twitter. She also revealed that their attempt to move the show to another network failed. Clark said they needed money to keep the show afloat. And because of their budget problem, it became quite difficult for them to return with the second run. She also thanked the cast and crew for their efforts to make the show great.

Y: The Last Man Season 2

Clark also concluded that it was time for her to work on her next project. Well, the show got positive response from critics. But the troubled production history was the reason behind the show’s cancellation.

Star talks about potential Y: The Last Man season 2

Ashley Romans, who played Yorick’s bodyguard agent 355, discusses the possible conspiracy of the second season. She said the second season would focus on post-apocalyptic Paris, where the cast will rotate and what the whole world will look like after the disaster. She also said the show will focus on a comedy storyline in which two astronauts with Y chromosomes will return to Earth. Now it remains unclear whether the show could return for a second season.

Y: The Last Man Season 2

At the moment, it looks like the show may not be able to return with the second season. However, if Clark manages to bring the show to the new platform, we expect it to be a year before we return to the screen. The show will take nearly six to seven months to complete production, but post-production will take more time. So we can expect Y: The Last Man Season 2 in the fall of 2023. Stay tuned.
