A gunman killed two people Saturday night and injured three police officers and another resident in the Fort Worth area of Texas before turning a weapon on himself, police said.
Haltom City Police Sgt. Rick Alexander told a press conference that a man and a woman had been murdered. He added that an “elderly woman” who called the incident suffered “non-life-threatening injuries”.
A male officer “was hit in the right arm, finger and his leg,” he said. “Another male officer was hit in both legs and the third in the upper leg,” he said, adding that “all is not expected to be life-threatening.”
“The suspect, an adult male, has been confirmed to have died… from a self-inflicted gunshot wound,” Alexander said. “He was carrying a military-style rifle and a pistol near his arm.”
He added that it appeared that officers had fired back during the incident.
Police were notified of the shooting around 6:45 p.m., NBC News affiliate NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth reported.
A lengthy manhunt for the gunman was launched and local residents were advised to stay in their homes, the station reports.
After thanking the public for their help, Alexander said the Texas Rangers would take over the investigation.
