The first season of the adult animated series Hoops has landed on Netflix in August 2020. The season ended when Ben Hopkins finally accepted the position offered to him in Henderson Prep. Now it gets interesting to see where it goes next in Hoops Season 2.
Hoops is an American animated adult comedy-drama series created by Ben Hoffman for Netflix. The series follows the lives and misadventures of foul-mouthed, crabby basketball coach Ben Hopkins, who always feels undermined by his father’s past as an NBA star.
What to expect from Hoops season 2?
The first season of the adult animated drama took place in the fictional town of Lenwood, Kentucky. Season one followed the main character, Coach Ben Hopkins, in his series of hilarious and exhausting misadventures. Ben is a narcissist with a delusional sense of self-importance. Each of his attempts to improve himself results in bitter humiliation. This is reinforced by the people around him, who, despite their shockingly typical appearance, really care about him.
Ben accepts a position at Henderson Prep at the end of season one of Hoops. He didn’t get the job because of his job performance. But rather because he persuaded the mother of seven-legged friend Matty to transfer and play basketball for a more prominent school. Ben explains his choice to leave Lenwood High. He then hangs up his coat to remember his legacy and discovers he put his car keys in a coat pocket. Later, Ben is approached by his teammates, who form a human barricade on the roadway. The coach’s car breaks down, indicating his future at Henderson Prep is uncertain.
As Ben cut ties with his family, friends and students on his way out, this could be one of the highlights of the second season. When the series returns with Hoops Season 2, we expect to see Shannon in a more pivotal role. Ben probably won’t be with Henderson Prep for long. And when he returns to Lenwood, it will be intriguing to see how much he has changed.
The Netflix animated comedy series features a great voice cast led by Jake Johnson, who lends his voice to Ben Hopkins. Meanwhile, other voice cast members include Cleo King as Ben’s boss, Principal Opal, Natasha Leggero as Ben’s wife, Shannon, and Ron Funches lends his voice to Ron. Ben’s gifted student Matty is played by AD Miles.
Rob Riggle also gives a voice to the character of Barry Hopkins. If the series is relaunched for Hoops Season 2 by Netflix, we can expect most of these protagonists to return to their respective roles.
When is Hoops season 2 coming?
The first season of Netflix’s animated comedy-drama series premiered on the streaming platform on August 21, 2020. Speaking of the prospect of Hoop’s season 2, even after nearly years, Netflix hasn’t made an official announcement about the series’ renewal for a second season. We know the reviews for the show’s first season weren’t particularly good, which may be one reason Netflix hasn’t shown any interest in renewing the series so far.
On the contrary, the audience response to the first season has been good. So, while very small, there’s a chance the series will return for another season. When and if that will happen, however, has not yet been confirmed. So let’s be a little more patient and see what the future holds for the show.
