Netflix’s comedy-drama series Special premiered in May 2021 for its second season. The heartwarming series portrays the day-to-day issues faced by members of the LGBTQ community due to their acceptance through the eyes of protagonist Ryan Kayes. In the second season, we saw Ryan accepting himself and getting closer to his goals. Now it gets interesting to see where the story goes in Special Season 3? But will there be a third season? Let’s find out.
Will there be a special season 3?
The second season of Netflix’s comedy-drama series premiered on May 20, 2021. Obviously, it’s been nearly a year since the season, and Netflix has not made an official announcement about the show’s return. But if we go by various reports available on the internet, the series has been canceled for Special Season 3.
Despite the widely positive feedback, Netflix’s decision to cancel the series was a surprise. We have a glimmer of hope though, as the lead actor and series creator Ryan O’Connell has stated, “People will be surprised that Special ends, but this is just the tip! I’m not done telling stories about disabilities yet. This is actually just the beginning of a new chapter, so hold on tight, honey, I’m coming!” So let’s wait for some good news about Special Season 3.
Special Season 3: What Could Happen Next?
The story of the show follows a gay man Ryan. The show aims to draw attention to various issues faced by the LGTBQ community in society as they are not rightly accepted in mainstream society. LGBTQ people stumble hard to prove their identity. So Ryan chooses to rewrite his individuality, and in the end he has the life he wanted for himself.
As the series progresses, the episodes become more fun to watch, while also conveying a social message to the audience. The central subject of the show was accepting one’s disability in all its flaws and fears, rather than teaching viewers to live with it.

Upon its return with Special Season 3, the show would continue the story where the second season ended. Ryan accepted his identity and welcomed all his differences. In the next season, we may see Ryan continue his journey to successfully achieve his goals. The next season will also see Ryan start a family or raise awareness for Cerebral Palsy.
Cast Details!
The cast of the series has many familiar faces in the series. The cast of the series is led by Ryan O’Connell as Ryan Kayes, a gay man with mild cerebral palsy. The show also features Jessica Hecht in the role of Ryan’s mother, Karen Kayes, Punam Patel plays Kim Laghari, and Marla Mindelle plays Olivia. Meanwhile, the cast also includes Augustus Prew as Carey, Patrick Fabian as Phil and Bonnie as Samantha Lee.

We also see Kat Rogers as Caitie and Jason Michael Snow as Keaton. If the series returns with Special Season 3, most of the main protagonists, such as O’Connell and Kaynes, are expected to return in their respective roles. On the other hand, there may also be a new cast addition.
