Political and social issues were also a big deal in the dating world. Three-quarters (75%) of singles were looking for a match that respects or invests in social issues.

Interestingly, going alcohol-free during dates also witnessed a spike in India. More than 25% of young singles surveyed said they drank less on dates compared to last year and 72% of members said on their Tinder profiles that they don’t drink or only drink occasionally. The emoticons denoting beer and wine witnessed a drop of up to 40% on tinder profiles.

The terms “red flag” and “gaslighting” were trending. Nearly two-thirds (66%) of young singles surveyed said they were confident they could identify potential green or red flags when dating.
Young singles were also looking to astrology to guide their dating lives as zodiac signs were the most popular type descriptor in the app’s bios behind smoking preferences, pets and diet.
Tinder also revealed that Indians aged 18-25 were more likely to pack their bags as revenge tours witnessed a spike after the pandemic. Hyderabad has been crowned the most talkative city for video chatting on Tinder India this year, followed by Chennai and Bangalore, all of whom use the feature to connect with others across the country and the world.
Globally, nostalgia took a strong hold on young singles as they took inspiration from the dating trends of the 1990s and 1990s. In addition, talking about sneakers, anime, camping and barbecuing, trying new things together or street food were growing interests that attracted the attention of the young people to the app.
