If you’re an Instagram user, chances are it’s not the only social network you post to. The app makes it really easy to send your message to a few other social networks, including Facebook (which owns Instagram).

Here’s how to do it via the iPhone app (the Android app is very similar):

Connect your social networks

If you want to share Instagram photos with other social networks, you need to link those accounts.

  • From the Instagram home screen, tap your profile icon followed by the menu icon in the top right corner.
  • Select Settings > Account > Share with other apps.
  • Select the account you want to link and enter your login details. You can link a number of networks, including Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr. (If you link to Facebook, the app may already have the information in your account since, as mentioned earlier, both Facebook and Instagram are part of the same company.)

The social networks you can share with may vary depending on your account and country.

Twitter authorization page

Once you’ve chosen a network, you’ll be invited to connect it to Instagram.

Post your photo on Instagram and other social networks

Now you can set it up so that when your photo is posted to Instagram, it’s also posted to other social media accounts:

  • In the Instagram app, select the plus sign at the top of the screen. Select After , then choose the image you want to share (or take a new photo). Tap Next one
  • Apply the desired filters and edits to the photo. Tap Next one

Instagram homepage with post drop down menu

From your Instagram home page, select the plus sign and ‘Post’.

Instagram edit page

When you’re happy with your photo, select ‘Next’.

  • On the last screen before the photos are posted, you have the option to write a caption, tag people, and add a location. You’ll also see a list of the current major social media services — Facebook, Twitter, and Tumbler — along with all the others you’ve linked to your Instagram account.
  • Enable all social networks where you want to post the photo. If you haven’t joined that particular network yet, you will be invited to do so at this point.

New post Instagram page

After you select a photo to share, you can choose which network to share it with.

Advanced settings page

If you choose Advanced Settings on the New Post page, you can automatically share all your photos on Facebook.

  • If you select Advanced settings (right after the list of social media services), you can have your photos and videos automatically posted to Facebook.

Update June 29, 2022, 5:05 PM ET: This article was originally published on February 21, 2020 and has been updated to reflect changes in the app.
