  • Both will collaborate on research, training and technical studies on new and sustainable steel technologies.
  • The Sajjan Jindal Steel Professor Chair will be set to: IIT Bombay for research into sustainable steel production and its use.

Indian Business Conglomerate JSW Group and one of India’s leading technical institutes, IIT Bombay, are tied to establish a technology hub for developing solutions for steel production in India.

JSW will provide financial and technical support to IIT Bombay for the construction of the JSW Technology Hub. IIT Bombay is expected to complete construction in FY28.

The JSW Technology Hub will be established within IIT Bombay’s Center of Excellence in Steel Technology (CoEST). The main goal would be to expand production of quality steel while reducing carbon emissions.

“Our drive for R&D and product development has made us the largest and preferred supplier in all categories. The JSW Group’s strategic partnership with IIT Bombay is a forward-thinking step in our ongoing journey to be future-ready,” said Seshagiri Raojoint MD JSW Steel and group CFO.

JSW and IIT Bombay will collaborate on research, training and engineering studies on new and emerging steel technologies.

IIT Bombay will also establish the Sajjan Jindal Steel Professor Chair to facilitate targeted training and research on new and emerging technologies in steelmaking.

A joint steering committee with representation from both IIT Bombay and JSW Steel will be established to direct the technical cooperation between the two entities.

“This powerful combination will jointly leverage the knowledge-rich faculties of IIT Bombay and the engineering capabilities of JSW to develop new industrial steelmaking applications with an emphasis on low carbon emissions,” Sangita Jindalsaid chairman of the JSW Foundation.

“Our CoEST has a vision to help India’s steel sector become a global leader,” added Subhasis Chaudhuri, director of IIT Bombay.
