Instagram is recovering from some issues that affected users who tried to open the app on their iPhone or Android devices. Users on Reddit reported that the app was constantly crashing, making it difficult for them to see messages, and Down detector showed: that the outage lasted less than an hour, between 12:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. ET (9:30–10:30 PT).

Meta spokesperson Devi Narasimhan said: The edge: “We are aware that some people are having trouble accessing Instagram. We are working to get things back to normal as soon as possible and we apologize for the inconvenience.”

The issues weren’t 100 percent consistent – for some of our employees, the service seemed to be working perfectly fine, but others experienced repeated crashes, especially when trying to view stories. Those crashes are mostly gone, but there’s still something weird about the user interface; for one employee, the Create button has returned to where the Roles button should be, and another got a notification that should have gone away months ago.

The problem seems to be fixed for most people.

Other Meta Applications, such as: whatsapp, facebookand Messengerdid not appear to be affected during the outage.

Update Sept 22, 1:57 PM ET: Updated to indicate that most of the issues have been resolved.
