Career

Mike Allgaier ran additional ARCA races in 2003, making six starts in his father’s No. 86. He finished sixth in his second start at Toledo Speedway, and he later finished third at Salem Speedway.

He made only five starts, but finished second in Toledo the following season. He also represented the United States in the South Pacific Saloon Car Championship, where he finished in the top five twice.

Allgaier competed in seven ARCA races in 2005, splitting his time between Hixson Motorsports and Bobby Gerhart Racing cars. In addition to setting a new track record, he won his first career pole in Springfield and finished in the top five four times.

Allgaier made his first full-time run in ARCA in 2006, finishing 10th and becoming the first Springfield native to win in the 72-year history of Auto Racing Championships at the Fairgrounds.

He also entered three more Truck races for MB, finishing 21st at Kansas Speedway. In 2007, he won his second career ARCA race at Salem, finishing fourth in points. In May 2008, Allgaier signed a contract with Penske Racing to drive four NASCAR Nationwide Series races in their No. 12 Dodge. Allgaier was later signed to drive the car full-time in 2009.

Allgaier had the fastest car early in the race, trying to pass Canadian road champion Kyle Busch and Ron Fellows while finishing sixth in the 2009 NAPA 200 in Montreal. Likewise, he caused a wreck that eliminated both himself and Fellows from the race.

Allgaier had a similar season in 2010, but on March 20 he would win his first Nationwide Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway and finish fourth in the standings.

Additionally, Allgaier returned to the renamed Turner Scott Motorsports, winning the 2012 NAPA Auto Parts 200 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal, Quebec.

It was announced that Allgaier would make his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series debut in August 2013 at Chicagoland Speedway. Additionally, Allgaier was announced to be competing full-time for Rookie of the Year in the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in January 2014.

On October 2, 2015, it was announced that Allgaier would leave HScott Motorsports and be replaced by Clint Bowyer in 2016. It was further announced that Allgaier would ride the number 7 for his sponsor Brandt instead of Regan Smith.

Allgaier stayed with JR Motorsports for the 2017 NASCAR Xfinity Series season. Additionally, he led late in the DC Solar 200 in Phoenix, passing Austin Dillon with less than 30 laps to go.

The 2020 Xfinity season started in Daytona with a crash involving Allgaier and Jeremy Clements on lap 47. Similarly, he won stages in Phoenix, Bristol, Las Vegas and Pocono, but struggled with bad luck in the first half of the season .

In addition, Allgaier had only one top 20 finish in the first four races of the 2021 Xfinity season, finishing 14th in Las Vegas. He won his first race three races later at Darlington Raceway Speedway, beating Cup champion Martin Truex Jr.

On June 27, Allgaier was called up again as a substitute driver in a Cup Series race, this time for Justin Haley in the No. 77 Spire Motorsports. Likewise, Haley had to recover from a hard crash in the Xfinity race earlier in the day in the second. race of the Cup Series doubleheader in Pocono.
