Kiwi healthtech software platform Care Patron has raised NZ$1.6 million in pre-seed funding to develop its collaborative health workspace

The round was led by trans-Tasman VC Blackbird. The Kiwi startup is up to date and will use the cash injection to grow its global team and deliver its product and growth vision.

Care Patron was founded by David Pene and Jamie Frew, both of whom have over a decade of experience building software products and global user communities. Their experience allowed them to see firsthand how poorly served health professionals are by software, in addition to frontline experience.

Frew helped his family with their community hospital in his youth, while Pene observed his partner, a physician, in small teams and practices.

They launched Carepatron in late 2021, and the user community has quickly expanded to more than 700 health teams and continues to grow with two-thirds of the community in the US and Asia. The platform is already used in more than 30 countries in North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific.

The organizations that use it range from solo practitioners to teams of more than 100 people. Frew, CEO of Carepatron, said the platform cuts the cost of health software for solo practitioners and teams by an average of 74%.

“Health teams play a critical role in our communities, but often don’t have access to the tools they need to deliver greater collaboration and better health outcomes,” he said.

“Instead, they often rely on paper forms, manual processes, Word documents and legacy software to get by. We believe the best way to achieve better health is to bring practitioners and clients together in one collaborative health workspace.”

His colleague and the startup’s CTO, David Pene, said it offers some other amazing benefits as well, as 90% of the community saves 8+ hours of administrative work per week, while also reducing customer no-shows by 96. % decreases. The platform also reduces the time it takes customers to access a service by 91% and to pay for a service by 98%. More than half of all use takes place on mobile devices.

“We pledge to save healthcare professionals one day a week by reducing the time spent on busy administrative work, such as booking and reschedule client appointments, answering emails and generating bills,” Pene said.

Phoebe Harrop, director of Blackbird, said as people increasingly take their health into their own hands, they are looking for more affordable and streamlined services to book and pay.

“By giving people access to the experts they need, Carepatron reduces the frictions associated with getting timely care.” said

“We are very excited to support Jamie and David on their journey to empower hundreds of thousands of healthcare professionals around the world with lovable practice management software.”
