KKR invests $300 million in UPL subsidiary Advanta for a 13.33% stake

Private equity firm KKR will invest $300 million for a 13.33% stake in Advanta Enterprises, a subsidiary of UPL – a global provider of agricultural solutions, the companies said Friday.

Upon completion of the transaction, seed company Advanta will operate as a standalone platform; and strives to become a global leader in seed sustainability.

The investment comes at a time when food production faces structural challenges due to geopolitical disruption, population growth, dwindling farmland, declining productivity and climate change.

Advanta focuses on sustainable agriculture and provides farmers with locally adapted, high quality hybrid seeds. It is present in 84 countries in Asia, Australia, EuropeUnited States and Latin America, and Africa.

KKR will make its investment from its global Impact strategy, which invests in companies that deliver solutions to address critical global challenges and contribute to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

As of December 31, 2021, KKR committed more than $25 billion in equity worldwide to investments in climate and environmental sustainability, the statement said.
