Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs used to be born under the astrological sign Virgo on the 4e September 1953, in New York City, the fifth of nine children born to Clothilda and Hilton Jacobs. He holds American nationality and is of African American ethnicity.

Lawrence graduated from the High School of Art and Design in 1971, before enrolling at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, but eventually dropping out.

He worked on a myriad of odd jobs including errand boy, delivery boy and even florist before becoming a freelance artist and package designer. He later studied acting with the Negro Ensemble Company (commonly called NEC) and with the Al Fann Theatrical Ensemble.
