One person is dead and several others have been taken to hospital after a car accident in which a CareFlight helicopter crashed while responding at the scene. The crash occurred at about 4:08 a.m. on US 127 on Eaton Road in Hamilton. The road is closed while the police investigate. The Butler County Sheriff’s Office said a Chevrolet Silverado was traveling east on Eaton Road when it entered the intersection where it was struck by a GMC Sierra heading north. A 69-year-old female passenger from Richmond, Indiana, driving the Silverado was thrown from the truck and pronounced dead at the scene. A 43-year-old passenger was freed from the truck and taken to hospital with serious injuries. The other two occupants suffered minor injuries and were also taken to hospital. The driver of the GMC Sierra was the only one in the vehicle and was not injured. A CareFlight helicopter was called for treatment, but while responding, it hit some wires and crashed near the scene. Three crew members on the plane were able to get out safely and were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the sheriff’s office said. Premier Health gave an update and said two of the three crew members have been treated for their injuries and have been released. A third is still being evaluated. An Oxford firefighter was also injured while responding to the crash, according to professional firefighters from the City of Oxford. The Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team is processing both crashes and will work with the Federal Aviation Administration to investigate the helicopter crash. The scene is still active and the road will be closed for the next few hours. The identity of the murdered woman is withheld pending the family.
