Instagram says it has permanently deleted the official account for Pornhub for violating the policy multiple times, Instagram’s parent company, Meta, told Motherboard.

Meta alleges that Pornhub has repeatedly violated its terms of service regarding nudity, adult content, and sexual solicitations over the past decade. However, it didn’t specify how exactly out there the . narrate New York Post that the account recently broke the rules against sexual solicitation by encouraging Instagram users to leave the social media platform and visit a porn site. Meta adds that the adult entertainment company has also violated guidelines regarding multiple terms violations.

In response, Pornhub published a open letter on Twitter, called the move unfair and pressed Meta to clearly explain why both his account and that of other adult content creators are repeatedly deleted. The Free Speech Coalition, Riley Reid and King Noire were among the 63 activist groups, artists, models and pornographers who signed the letter.

Pornhub states that Instagram’s enforcement of its policies regarding the platform over the years has been “opaque, discriminatory and hypocritical”. These actions, Pornhub says, have hurt the livelihoods of an already “marginalized group” of “independent creators” for whom Instagram is a key marketing tool.

At the same time, however, Pornhub says Instagram allows mainstream celebrities and brands to post explicit content without consequences. For example, the company compared its “full PG” account to that of Kim Kardashian, whose account recently featured a photo of her behind and made headlines.

“Denying us the opportunity to promote our brands and grow our businesses, while continually clearing, silencing and censoring the presence of sex workers and adult brands is violent and deeply damaging,” Pornhub wrote. “Combined with the mainstream financial discrimination that people in the porn industry face, it is dangerous and threatening to our livelihoods.”

The news comes as Pornhub’s Luxembourg-based parent company, MindGeek, has been accused of not doing enough to moderate content, as a former Pornhub content moderator wrote for The edge earlier this year.
