Millwall loan target Elliot Anderson signed off his Bristol Rovers stay in dream fashion – playing a huge part in the League Two club winning automatic promotion on a dramatic final day.
The Gas looked unlikely to catch Northampton Town for the final spot that guaranteed League One football next season at the half-time interval on Saturday.
But while the Cobblers won 3-1 at Barrow on Saturday, Rovers smashed relegated Scunthorpe United 7-0 – five of those coming in the second half. With goal difference level between the two clubs, Joey Barton’s team went up courtesy of having scored more goals.
Anderson, 19, joined them in the January transfer window from Newcastle United and scored eight goals and five assists.
And he netted the crucial seventh – that clinched third place – and set up two of the other goals at the Memorial Stadium against sorry Scunthorpe.
Millwall are keen on taking Anderson, who was voted EFL Young Player of the Month for April, on loan for the 2022-23 season.
