Thor: Love and Thunder will air in theaters on July 8, 2022. It was originally scheduled to release on November 5, 2021, but was dragged back due to the ongoing pandemic. Thor 4 was then confirmed for a May 2022 release, but after Marvel Studios verified it was postponing all of its upcoming films by October 2021, the release date was pushed back again. Thankfully, the release date hasn’t been moved too late, so you can get hyped for its release this summer.
The Thor Love and Thunder rumor indicates that Thor is here to keep up and it won’t be his last rendition. Not surprising, Chris Hemsworth returns as Thor. Many of his New Asgardian friends will turn on Odinson, with Tessa Thompson reprising her role as Valkyrie, and director Taika Waititi clambering back into his performance suit to play the wannabe radical Korg.
The Guardians of the Galaxy will also appear in Thor: Love and Thunder, which isn’t a detailed surprise. Avengers: Endgame, well, stopped Thor in the company of Marvel’s most beloved team of a-holes. So Star-Lord, Drax, Nebula, Mantis, Groot, and Kraglin are all slated to caption. Nothing was known about Rocket Raccoon’s withdrawal yet, but we understand he will be presenting. You can see him next to his fellow Guardians at the 1:04 mark in the teaser trailer.
Natalie Portman also returns as Doctor Jane Foster, with the actress admitting to reprising her role after a lonely encounter with Waititi (per Variety) while he reinvented her composition.
Portman appeared in Thor and his maligned series Thor: The Dark World and was nowhere to be seen in Ragnarok, with Thor devoting the maximum of that film to Sakaar’s alien world. At this point, Porter will be present in a fully amplified part in Thor: Love and Thunder, with Foster using Mjolnir and tolerating Goddess of Thunder covering.
A piece of clear Marvel Studios persuasion art seeped online in January, giving us an idea of what Jane’s Mighty Thor costume will look like. Plus, there’s a high-res image of her getting up in this Love and Thunder Twitter fan digest post. Not hardly that, but it looks like Thor is also bringing some new strings, with box assembly for a new Marvel Legends Thor action model revealing so much. Valkyrie also got a dress boost, according to this photo that Thompson broadcast before he quit.
Another absent Ragnarok giving rise to recovery is Jaimie Alexander, who returns (per Deadline) as Asgardian hero Sif. She went missing when her normal subordinates were the Warriors. Three were knocked off in Ragnarok, although she did make a cameo appearance in Loki’s fourth episode.
Meanwhile, former Batman master Christian Bale becomes the latest entertainer to score roles as both DC and Marvel personalities, while taking on villainous responsibilities as Gorr the God Butcher.
Sure, we could see Hemsworth return as a Thor variant in future seasons of Marvel’s animated anthology sequel to Disney Plus. He also briefly sounded different versions of Thor who was recognized as Frog Thor in Loki Season 1, so there are still chances for him to continue knocking. Thor is sure he has performed in live-action presentations. Time will tell whether he lasts or not.
