If you’re used to getting full Saturday Night Live and Law & authority on Hulu, that’s all going to change on September 19. From then on, NBC’s next day premieres on Peacock will come as part of the streaming service’s plan to consolidate NBC content on its home platform.
Peacock ended his content-sharing deal with Hulu in March to prepare for his plans to exclusively secure more of his own content. This includes shows like A Chicago, The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, Late Night with Seth Meyersand The voice.
The platform is already streaming next-day episodes of Bravo, owned by NBC, including: The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Below Deck, top chef, and Southern charm. NBC also made one of its longest running shows, Days of our livesexclusive to Peacock, but it has struggled to keep people employed for more than just the Olympics, the NFL, and The office.
To bolster its offering, NBC signed a deal with Universal Pictures last year to get the studio’s films on Peacock 45 days after they premiere in theaters in 2022. Peacock also owns the rights to the film. John Wick franchise and will debut a John Wick prequel in 2023.
In addition, it has two versions of Jurassic World Dominion — the original movie and an extended version — which will be available and streamed exclusively from September 2nd Halloween ends starring Jamie Lee Curtis the same day it hits theaters on October 14.
In July, NBC’s parent company Comcast reported that Peacock’s subscriber base remained steady at 13 million, despite having “extraordinary programming” during the quarter. Peacock has only managed to add 4 million paying subscribers since the end of 2021.
Despite a lack of meaningful subscriber growth in the previous quarter, Peacock president Kelly Campbell remains optimistic about the future of the two-year-old service. “We feel really good about the trends we’re seeing in our subscriber journey right now,” Campbell said in an interview with Deadline. “As we bring our content exclusively to Peacock the next day, we will be rolling out some special subscription offerings to ease that transition for consumers.”
