Gary Rowett has revealed that Dan Ballard was about to get a ticking off for his punt forward before Tom Bradshaw went on to get Millwall’s second goal in their 2-1 win over Hull City today.
The striker scored in the 55th minute to give the Lions a two-goal lead at The Den.
Just like in the reverse fixture, it was Benik Afobe who provided the assist for Bradshaw’s goal against the Tigers.
But Rowett admitted that initially he was less than impressed with the distribution of Arsenal loanee Ballard.
“If you look at the goal at their place it is a little bit more patient in the build-up and a good turn from Benik to put Bradders in,” he said. “This one was a little more route one. I was just about to have a go at Dan Ballard for just hoiking the ball up in the air about 100 feet.
“But then Benik wins it and Bradders anticipates it and suddenly you go ‘ooh – he’s the other side of their defender’. He just reads it a little bit quicker. What Bradders has done really well this season is shown that composure that he has shown so many times in his career.
“Every time he gets a chance I look at it and think he’s got to finish it.”
