ane Campion’s gothic western The Power of the Dog led nominations to the 94th Academy Awards, with star Benedict Cumberbatch among several leading British actors up for an Oscar.

In nominations announced Tuesday, Campion’s film landed a leading 12 nominations, including nods for best picture, best director and all of its top actors.

Denis Villeneuve’s majestic sci-fi epic Dune followed closely behind with 10 nominations.

Olivia Colman has been nominated for the best actress for The Lost Daughter, alongside Kristen Stewart for her portrayal of Diana in Spencer.

The nominees for this year’s Academy Awards were revealed in a live broadcast on Tuesday.

Oscar nominees in the category of best picture are Belfast, Coda, Don’t Look Up, Drive My Car, Dune, King Richard, Licorice Pizza, Nightmare Alley, The Power Of The Dog and West Side Story.

Sir Kenneth Branagh is in the running for best director for Belfast, which chronicles the life of a working class family during The Troubles in the late 1960s.

He is up against Ryusuke Hamaguchi for Drive My Car, Paul Thomas Anderson for Licorice Pizza, Jane Campion for The Power Of The Dog, and Steven Spielberg for West Side Story.

Jessie Buckley and Dame Judi Dench are among the other stars in the running for an Oscar this year.

Irish actress Buckley and Dame Judi are nominated for best supporting actress for their roles in The Lost Daughter and Belfast, respectively.

A seven-time Academy Award nominee, Dame Judi won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as Queen Elizabeth I in Shakespeare in Love in 1998.

Other nominees in the category include Ariana DeBose in West Side Story, Kirsten Dunst for Power Of The Dog and Aunjanue Ellis in King Richard.

Meanwhile, Ciaran Hinds has been nominated for supporting support actor for Belfast. Other nominees are Troy Kotsur for Coda, Jesse Plemmons for The Power Of The Dog, JK Simmons for Being The Ricardos, and Kodi Smit McPhee for The Power Of The Dog.

A largely virtual awards season added some unpredictability to this year’s nominations, which are occurring later than usual. To make way for the Olympics, the Oscars will be held March 27 and will return to their usual venue, the Dolby Theatre.
