Summary of the Call Me Kat Finale for Cat-A-Versary

Kat (Mayim Bialik) informs Carter (Julian Gant) about her cafe’s one-year-old cat-a-versary. She convinces him through the activities they would participate in, including her mother Sheila (Swoosie Kurtz) dressed as a cat and eating kettle corn. He states that she should have started with that and that he intends to attend.

She then inquires about Max (Cheyenne Jackson), who is fine with Carter, but not with Kat. He even smashed a soda gun when he heard her name. Despite his refusal to listen or accept her apologies, she is determined to invite him to the party. She even follows him to the toilet, which doesn’t come across well.

Oscar (Christopher Rivas) puts up a banner for the celebration in the cafe. Kat compliments him on his looks and he jokes that he’s done squats.

Sheila sits on her lap with one of the cats, Mr. Mousekers. She informs Kat that he is asleep and asks him to move so she can use the toilet. Kat finds it endearing at first, but soon discovers he’s dead.

When Phil (Leslie Jordan) finds out what happened to the cat, he comes out saying the oven is broken and wonders what else could go wrong.

Oscar, Randi (Kyla Pratt), and Phil all try to comfort her, but she remains distraught. Oscar claims the object is a cat and not a human, but she claims he was the first cat they took in and the only one allowed to use the toilet. She goes up the stairs and declares her desire to be alone. In addition, she requests Randi to collect the ashes.

Randi later visits Carter to explain that she has the ashes and is terrified to put them in her vehicle. She claims a ghost cat may live in it, leading Carter to think she’s crazy. However, he invites her to spend time with him.

Phil offers Kat dinner and tries to comfort her, but she sends him home because she still wants to be alone and finds him a nuisance.

Max stops by after drinking whiskey to help her feel better. They exchange cat memories and eventually reconcile. They almost kiss while giggling, prompting Max to return home immediately.

Ray, the service technician (Travis Howard) informs Phil that he needs to get a part to repair the oven. They continue to banter as Kat enters, stunned at what is going on. Ray claims to have everything under control, but continues to joke with Phil. Phil reveals after he leaves that he has such a crush on him. Kat is fully committed, but is more concerned about how the party will be a funeral for the cat.

Randi enters and Kat asks if she has the ashes. She responds in the affirmative, but Kat is skeptical. Randi reassures her that everything will be okay and that she is informed about the funeral. However, she left it with Carter, where it was placed in his car service.

Oscar pays a visit with flowers of apology and admits his mistake. Randi informs him of her actions, and he expresses his gratitude for relieving him of the burden. Ray and Phil, meanwhile, continue to chat and connect.

Later in the episode, Randi and Kat argue about Max versus Oscar. Randi advises her to focus on the man she’s going naked with.

Wyatt (Tim Bagley) shows up at the funeral and shows a photo of his grandmother Lassie. Preparing for her Cats performance, Sheila explains that she has used Mr Mousekers as a model for her cosmetics as his face is permanently imprinted on her head.

Meanwhile, Randi yells at Max about the almost kiss. He is stunned at how she knew when Carter informs her that the ashes are two hours away. He was given a separate box of rice as a replacement.

While Kat is on the way to collect the ashes, Phil prepares her for the funeral. Randi and Phil present her the box and come up with an explanation as to why it’s in another box.

Kat delivers a poem, then leads Ray, Max, and Phil in a song. Everyone is very absorbed in it, especially Wyatt and Sheila.

Max then informs Kat that he ended his relationship with Bridgette (Schuyler Helford) because there was love but no friendship and that he wanted to kiss her that night. He claims this is the result of bad timing and his daring action. Kat asks the fictional Bridgette if everything is real, and everything is confirmed.

Cat is overcome with emotion and runs to the bathroom as she knocks over the box. She sees that it is full of rice and asks what is going on. Randi and Carter try to make up a cover, but eventually admit the truth. Kat is distraught until Oscar arrives with the ashes. He appeared to be at work, but was actually on his way to Chicago to pick up the ashes.

Kat is moved but stunned because she has two boys whom she loves and who adore her in return. Sheila brings another cat and declares that they are soul mates.

The season ends with the music resuming and everyone saying goodbye.

Reviews for the second season

The second season of Call Me Kat had an average rating of 0.35 in the 18-49 demographic and 1.81 million live+same day viewers (including all DVR viewing until 3am). Compared to season one, this is a 41% drop in the demo and a 31% drop in viewership in the live + same day ratings (including DVR viewing until 3am). While these numbers further exclude delayed or streamed viewing, they provide an excellent indication of how a show is doing, especially when compared to other programs on the same channel. While other economic reasons come into play, the higher-rated shows are often extended while the lower-rated shows are canceled. Find out how Call Me Kat compares to other FOX television series.
