  • Furniture retailer Pottery Barn opened its first physical store in September 2022.
  • It signed actor Deepika Padukone as a brand ambassador, to promote its international expansion and create a collection together.
  • IKEA and West Elm have also opened their stores in India.

US-based home furnishing retailer Pottery Barn, which launched in India in July this year, signed actor Deepika Padukone as a brand ambassador on Friday.

The Williams-Sonoma brand, known for its durable and high-quality products, digitally launched its products in India in July 2022. It also opened its first store in September at the Ambience Mall in Vasant Kunj, Delhi.

Padukone will also promote the brand’s international expansion as a brand ambassador and also help co-create a collection for Pottery Barn, the company said.

“Through our partnership starting in 2023, customers will have the opportunity to bring Pottery Barn’s coveted designs, infused with Deepika’s signature style, into their own homes,” said Monica Bhargava, chief design officer, Pottery Barn.

Pottery Barn isn’t the first global chain to trade its sights on India. In 2018, Swedish furniture giant IKEA entered India and now has five stores in Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad. In 2021, Brooklyn-based West Elm, in partnership with Reliance Stores, also opened its stores in India – starting with Mumbai.

Interestingly, both West Elm and Pottery Barn fall under the Williams-Sonoma umbrella.

Deepika isn’t the first Indian celebrity to work with Pottery Barn either. In 2016 the furniture chain
cooperated with Indian designer Sabyasachi to “create a collection of global, vintage-inspired decors that builds on his design duality of maximalism and minimalism.”

Pottery Barn, headquartered in San Francisco, California, also offers clients complimentary Design Crew services, comprised of a dedicated team of interior design experts. It also operates its own stores in the United States, Canada and Australia.
