Mark Warburton has told his QPR players that he expects “a response” at Millwall tomorrow night after they lost to Championship basement dwellers Barnsley on Saturday.
The west London club were unbeaten in seven matches before their reverse in South Yorkshire.
Next up is the short trip to The Den.
“We need to see a response,” Warburton told www.qpr.co.uk. “We turned up at the venue [Barnsley] knowing what we’re facing, we knew they had lost seven in a row and we didn’t deliver the performance that was good enough to get three points.
“As a group of players and staff, we’ve got to look at what can we do better? What were the areas of concern? What do we need to get right for Tuesday? We have been in great form and the players deserve enormous credit for the points they’ve amassed – 16 out of 18 or 17 out of 21. But no doubt we let ourselves down. Too many times we lacked a little bit of quality in the final third and made poor decisions. You only ever learn from your mistakes.
“Would we rather be in a fight at the bottom of the league, scrapping for survival, or in those positions fighting it out in the top six?
“On Saturday we were way below our best. Now it’s straight into the Lions’ Den – literally. It’s a great place to go and play football, it’s a London derby and an intimidating atmosphere. There is good physicality from Millwall and they’ve got some good players, they are well-managed by Gary [Rowett].”
Asked if he had a message for the travelling fans, Warburton replied: “Don’t lose the faith. They have been so outstanding for us from the first game of the season. They should never underestimate the power they can have on a performance.”
