“The lifting of pandemic-related restrictions has resulted in an overall growth of retail businesses across regions and categories. To understand the full impact of the festival season on retail sales, it is essential to put the October and November numbers together. We await the results for the month of November to draw definitive conclusions. However, all signs point to a positive trend,” said Kumar Rajagopalan, CEO of RAI.
In terms of categories, consumer discretionary and electronics saw the strongest growth at 38%, followed by Quick Service Restaurants at 33% as of October 2019.
Sports goods followed with a 30% growth, followed by food and groceries which marked a 23% increase from pre-pandemic levels, according to RAI.
However, comparison with October 2021 levels showed that sporting goods made the biggest jump at 35%, followed by consumer durables and electronics at 32%.
RAI is an advocate for retailers in India, working with all levels of government and stakeholders to promote and support retail investment.
