iverpool will celebrate a trophy-laden season on Sunday with a bus parade through the city streets – regardless of the result in tonight’s Champions League final.

Jurgen Klopp’s side lifted both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup trophies earlier this year, each arriving courtesy of penalty shootouts after 0-0 draws with Chelsea at Wembley. The women’s team will also be part of the event, after winning the Women’s Championship.

An invitation from Liverpool City Council to mark their successes with a bus parade was accepted by the club ahead of facing Real Madrid in Paris, and Sunday, May 29 was chosen for the parade.

Proceedings begin at 4pm and will last a few hours as the squad make their way across 13.5km of the city, on the same route taken for the 2019 Champions League final celebrations.

The parade will begin in Allerton Maze to the south-east of Liverpool city centre and head north, on Queens Drive towards the Childwall’s Fiveways roundabout and then on to the Rocket flyover.

The bus is then set to pass through Queens Drive, Mill Bank, West Derby Road, Islington, Leeds Street and The Strand before finishing up on Blundell Street by Liverpool Waterfront.

TV coverage of the parade will feature heavily across Sky Sports News as well as local news channels, plus BBC News and Sky News – particularly if Liverpool win in Paris.

Police have asked fans to watch the parade locally if possible, rather than head to the city centre where views of the bus will be more restricted amid the large crowds expected to attend.

Merseyside Police chief superintendent Jonathan Davies said: “For the event itself, please don’t climb. People will inevitably try to get some kind of height advantage, but it’s extremely dangerous. Some of the things you are climbing on are not safe; there is enough room for everyone to see safely.

“Flares are very dangerous; you don’t really know what you’ve got, they can be hot to hold and give out a lot of smoke, and it ruins the enjoyment for yourself and those around you. Please act respectfully and come and enjoy what is going to be a massive day for the city.”
