A Spirit Airlines flight to Florida had to turn around and make an emergency landing in Maryland Friday night due to an engine problem.
Flight 2077 took off from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport en route to Orlando International Airport. But after takeoff, the plane had a “mechanical problem” and had to roll back, an airline spokesman said in a statement on Saturday.
It returned to Baltimore shortly at 8:51 PM, about 30 minutes after takeoff, according to FlightAware.
“The aircraft landed safely at BWI and guests disembarked according to normal procedures,” the statement said.
The spokesperson did not provide further details about what happened.
Spirit Airlines said the aircraft will be taken out of service and inspected by the maintenance department.
