apper Stormzy made one lucky couple’s big day even more memorable this weekend by crashing their wedding at the Manchester Hotel.
The Own It singer, who is currently on tour for his bestselling 2019 album Heavy Is The Head, crashed the party by accident on his way through the hotel, before getting involved in the big day.
Pictures taken by guests show the Croydon-born hitmaker, 28, smiling and taking selfies with members of the party, including the bride and groom – before heading off to his headline show in Manchester.
Dressed casually in a black tracksuit, he cut a striking figure among the red dresses of the bridesmaids, sneaking into the reception behind a face covering before the guests realised who he was, prompting screams of excitement.
Stormzy –real name Michael Ebenezer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr – is currently making waves with his Heavy Is The Head tour, which began in March this year and includes three nights at the London O2 Arena.
Despite cancelling his April 2021 tour due to Covid restrictions, the rapper’s wealth recently shot up to £4.2m, with company Stormzy Limited rising £400,000 in value to £3.4m and touring company Merky making an £860,000 profit.
His publishing company, #Merky Books, has also been going from strength to strength.
Launched in partnership with Penguin Random House in 2018, the imprint was set up with the aim of nurturing young writing talent.
It also recently announced that it was partnering with HSBC to host lectures on financial wellbeing and becoming an entrepreneur, which will be streamed in three secondary schools around the UK.
With all that on his plate, you’d expect the rapper to be taking it slow. However, he is also set to release his hotly-anticipated third album later this year, telling the Motorpoint Arena that it was “the album of my dreams. This album is deeper than man could ever imagine. I’m free.”
Though it hasn’t yet been named, Stormzy revealed that the album would be available to pre-order, with attendees of his current tour getting the first opportunity to do so as a thank you for supporting him.
Given his high profile, you might also be forgiven for thinking celebrity wedding crashers are a rare occurrence.
However, Stormzy’s surprise appearance follows that of Tom Hanks, who also crashed a wedding last year in Santa Monica between brides Diciembre and Tashia Farries – and Meryl Streep, who also crashed a Manchester wedding in 2011 while filming The Iron Lady.
