Domestic Steelmaker Tata Steel on Wednesday said it will go for the implosion of an obsolete unit on its non-operational coke furnace facility in Jamshedpur on Sept 4. The move is focused on the introduction of an advanced, environmentally friendly new coke oven unit.

In the coming months, the domestic steelmaker will perform implosions of three more obsolete units – a coal tower and two chimneys at the coke oven facility.

“Tata Steel will perform a planned implosion of an obsolete unit (Model Repair Shop 12 meters high) in a non-operational coke oven facility in Jamshedpur on Sunday, September 4, 2022,” the company said in a statement.

Tata Steel has already applied for all necessary approvals and certificates of no objection from the relevant authorities.

This implosion is performed by the company’s contract partner Edifice & Jet Demolition South Africa.
