A new fantasy anime series is coming soon! The Dawn of the Witch’s Spring 2022 release date was confirmed by a recently released trailer.
For those unfamiliar with the series, The Dawn of the Witch is based on a light-hearted novel written by Kakeru Kobashiri and illustrated by Takashi Iwasaki. As of today, the novel has four parts and counts.
The studio Tezuka Productions animates this edit. They are best known for animating classics like Astro Boy and Black Jack. Tezuka Productions also produced both Kids on the Slope and the 2019 Dororo reboot with MAPPA.
The Dawn of the Witch will begin broadcasting on TBS Japan on April 7, 2022 and on BS11 on April 10, 2022. Crunchyroll has already licensed the anime for streaming, so international viewers can watch it there.
Unfortunately, the release date for the English dub of The Dawn of the Witch is still unknown. If produced, Crunchyroll will likely announce the dubbed version in mid-spring 2022.
What is the Witch’s Dawn all about?
The story is set shortly after the end of a 500-year war between the witches and the church. Despite the war’s end, tensions between the two remain high in shadowy corners of the globe.
At the Academy of Magic in the kingdom of Wenias, there is a struggling student named Saville. Unfortunately, Saville has no memories of who he was before enrolling in the academy.
Saville’s low grades eventually attract the attention of his principal, Albus, who instructs him to participate in a special drill. Under the orders of his rector, Saybil leaves the safety of the kingdom to travel south.
Meanwhile, anti-magic sentiment in the south is strong and rebels are a constant threat. Saville is accompanied on his journey by the school’s beast, Kudo; the genius, Holt; and Roux Cristasse, the famous witch of the south.
Each member of the group has their own motives for making the trek, but one thing is certain. There will be plenty of adventure along the way!

Satoshi Kuwabara, known for his work on Black Jack and Girlfriend, Girfriend, directs and does the composition.
Mayumi Morita and Kakeru Kobashiri are credited for literature, while Rena Iwasaki is responsible for the character designs. Other key contributors include Masami Saito as art director and Satoshi Motoyama as music director.
