The American Horror and Thriller Series”Them” has been released on the online streaming platform Amazon Prime on April 9, 2021. Before that, its first two episodes were screened at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Festival on March 18, 2021, where it won the SXSW 2021 Audience Award for Episodic Premiere. The production, whose first season has a total of 10 episodes and averages 45 minutes each, received a 7.3 on IMDb with 13,000 viewers and grabbed the audience’s heart with a mix of mystery and suspense. Created by Little Marvin, the series was written by a large team of screenwriters. Deborah Ayorinde, Ashley Thomas, Shahadi Wright Joseph, Melody Hurd and Ryan Kwanten are in the cast of the series. The show is based on the question “Do you know your neighbor?”, and the fear of living as a black person in 1953. Miri Yoon (The Stand), Don Wolf (Amazing Stories), David Matthews (Vinyl), and Roy Lee ( The Exorcist) are the executive producers of the series.
The audience has achieved a true and chilling story set in the 1950s. While showing the dark side of society, Them manages to succeed in the horror genre as one of the most notable productions of recent times. The series caused a disagreement among the public. While some comments say the production used racist rhetoric and tried to provoke people, others believe the show is spitting the racism of whites into their teeth.
The producers were already ambitious before the series aired. Executive Producer Lena Waithe said: “The first season will tell how terrifying it was to be black in 1953. It will also remind us that being black in 2018 is just as horrific. This anthology series will explore the cultural differences between all of us and examine us versus them in a way we’ve never seen before.
Will there be a second season of Them?
Yes! There will be. they were confirmed for a second season back when it was initially ordered, and this serves as a way for the streaming service to express confidence in the series from the start. Since the show is an anthology horror, the Emory family story is done. We get a new story in the second season, which changes things when it comes to casting and synopsis. Showmaker and writer Little Marvin has revealed that each season of ‘Them’ will be set in a different time and place.
When is Them Season 2 Release Date?
Them was originally announced in 2018, but didn’t get its showrunner and cast until a year later. It usually takes 14-18 months for new seasons of an Amazon series. If an extension is done early enough, that time can be reduced to 12 months. There is no official release date for Them Season 2 yet, but production could begin anytime as Season 2 has already been pre-ordered. If we see how long production took for the first season, we can see the second season in the summer of 2022† Stay tuned for the upcoming updates.
What is their plot line?
The plot of the series, Them, tells the story of a black family who moves to a mostly white-populated Los Angeles neighborhood in the 1950s. African Americans, numbering about 6 million, carried out a movement called the Great Migration from the 1910s to the 1970s. Faced with many racist attitudes in rural areas of the southern US, families found the solution by moving west and east. The Emory family was one of them. Lucky (Deborah Ayorinde), husband Henry Emory (Ashley Thomas), daughters Gracie (Melody Hurd) and Ruby (Shahadi Wright Joseph) left Compton in 1953, during the Great Migration, from North Carolina for a white-populated Los Angeles neighborhood. They are members of a black family of 4, whose greatest desire is to start a new life after the brutal events they witnessed in Carolina. After years, the family has finally moved into a beautiful home and made their dreams come true. But as soon as they step into the new neighborhood, they realize that nothing has changed and that many challenges await them. Because thousands of local people started following them without even blinking their eyes. Relatives find themselves at the center of an impending supernatural play from their neighbors. The family’s home, located on a tree-lined, seemingly idyllic street, turned into a crime scene where neighbors as well as other supernatural forces threatened to annoy, harm and destroy them.
The father of the house, Henry, became a successful engineer after his long efforts. This earned him a good income and allowed him to buy the house. Although he tries to ignore the repulsive movements of the neighbors, the situation was not so easy for his wife, Lucky.
While the eldest daughter of the house, Ruby, is happy at her new school, she encounters some unpleasant behavior when she enters the classroom. Little girl Gracie is under the influence of a scary figure named Miss Vera. Day after day, relatives begin to encounter unimaginable supernatural problems. As the problem of racism spreads from day to day to different situations, the indifference of the people around us and the position that causes the problem becomes the answer to many questions.
Although the series is based on a true story, it sometimes severs ties with reality by switching to supernatural events because it is mixed with fear. It is possible to see the dystopia of the black people, both in the behavior of the whites and in the terrible nightmares of the Emory family. The evil and terrifying characters who haunt their relatives touch on various issues of racism. Their desire to have equal living conditions with white people is utopian because of the perspective of the environment, despite being in the same status and class. Whether your father is an engineer or your mother a former teacher is not that important to white people. Most importantly, they leave their neighborhood. Otherwise, the price of their houses, which represent the American dream and which they bought with a lot of debt, will fall and more black families will settle in the city. In short, there is no place for blacks in this dream.
