  • airtel and Trust Jio have acquired selected 5G bands in India.
  • You need to make sure that your smartphone supports enough 5G bands.
  • You can check your smartphone’s 5G bands by following the steps below.

The Indian government has announced the launch of 5G services on October 1 during the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2022. Airtel and Reliance Jio have already started offering 5G services in selected cities.

If you have a 5G smartphone and live in a city where the telcos have started offering 5G services, you will soon be able to take advantage of the latest technology.

If you are wondering if your smartphone supports 5G or if you are looking for a new smartphone and wondering if the smartphone supports enough 5G bands that your telco offers, read on.

Airtel 5G Bands

Airtel supports the following 5G bands in India:

  • 900MHz (n8)
  • 1800MHz (n3)
  • 2100MHz (n1)
  • 3300MHz (n78)
  • 26GHz (n258)

Reliance Jio 5G Bands

Reliance Jio supports the following 5G bands in India:

  • 700MHz (n28)

  • 26GHz (n58)

How to check your smartphone’s 5G bands

If you are looking for a smartphone and wondering if the device supports 5G, here is how to check if the device supports enough 5G bands:

The easiest method is to go to the smartphone manufacturer’s website, go to the selected smartphone’s page and check its specifications. Go to 5G and check out the supported bands in the “Network” section.

For example, we look at the 5G bands supported by the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra.

in his
page with specificationswe can see that the S22 Ultra supports n1, n2, n3, n5, n7, n8, n12, n20, n25, n28, n66, n38, n40, n41, n77 and n78 bands.

For India, the bands that the S22 Ultra supports are n1, n3, n8, n28 and n78.

If you have already bought a smartphone, you can use the mentioned method or check the bands on the box of the smartphone to find the supported bands.

You may have to wait a little longer

It should be noted that not all 5G smartphones in India are 5G ready, even if they have the necessary hardware. To enable 5G, a software update from the smartphone maker is required.

While companies have already started rolling out a software update to enable 5G, it will take some time for all devices to receive the update. For example, Samsung has said that all of its devices will be 5G-ready by mid-November 2022. On the other hand, Apple has said that its iPhones will receive software updates for 5G in December.
